The story begins on the day Devon Burges almost dies in childbirth. That same night, her friend Belina is murdered in a cemetery, body drained of blood and abandoned on the banks of the Providence River.

Back home from the hospital after weeks of recovery, Devon struggles with postpartum life. But it’s not just sleeplessness and new-mom anxiety, but she begins to hear a vicious, godlike voice preying on all her insecurities. When another friend, Alec, is accused of the murder, Devon must return to her skills as an attorney to investigate Belina’s life and uncover those who benefitted from her death.

Nothing will stop Devon from helping Alec and finding Belina’s killer, not the baby in her arms or the cruel voice in her head. But staying on the right side of the law proves difficult as she digs deeper into the crime. While Devon believes Alec is innocent, she uncovers his involvement in a money-laundering scheme, ties to a corrupt government official, and a botched FBI investigation.

Finding justice becomes an obsession, one that leads Devon, baby in-hand, down Belina’s dangerous path directly to the killer.
